Friends at Bilton
FAB is a committee established in 1999 as an informal, voluntary organisation made up of parents from all year groups across the school. We are here to help bring people together and build those friendships that we know will last for many years to come. Along the way, we look to raise money in support of the School and various charities.
As someone who is part of the BG community, we would love for you to get involved: there’s no ‘sign-up’ process, please come along to one of our meetings, either at the School or online.
FAB meet twice a term on a Saturday morning at the School and we aim to hold a social style meeting once a term. Your attendance at any of these is encouraged and does not commit you to anything: please do come along, listen, offer advice and make a decision to get involved further.
The events organised by FAB have raised funds for outdoor learning spaces, events for the children, professional theatre lighting, and many other wonderful things over the years. It doesn’t matter how much or how little time you have to offer, FAB welcomes each and every parent’s participation.
There are some key FAB events that happen every year, such as the upper school Christmas ball, the middle & juniors school disco, the pre-prep Easter eggstravaganza, and the family Christmas Fayre. As well as these, we also like to organise smaller events which may tie into a particular celebration or just for fun!
Parents across the school play an important role in school life, and there are many opportunities to be involved, or just to enjoy the social network that being a parent at Bilton Grange brings.
We would love to hear your opinions and ideas, as we are keen to make our efforts as inclusive as possible across the BG community and hope to kick start a fantastic year ahead.
Co-Chairs
Marleen Enright:Marleen Enright is the chair of FAB, along with Felicity Whitford. Marleen is an M&A/Integration specialist who has worked with major international companies in the Asset Management, Insurance and Private Equity spaces who holds an MBA from London Business School. She is an avid hiker and tennis player who now lives in the countryside playing padel on the weekends, organising village events, volunteering in the community and taking lovely walks with her pointer (rain or shine you have to go out!). When she is not organising dinner parties, planning playdates/holidays or chauffeuring to her children (Pre-prep daughter and Prep son) to many activities/birthday parties she enjoys cooking (something about chopping ingredients is peaceful), sitting by the fireplace with a good book (usually a crime drama, a book club novel or some less interesting financial documents) and a glass of freshly poured champagne (thank you hubby).
Felicity Whitford
Fliss is the chair of FAB, along with Marlene Enright. Fliss is a British Diplomat working for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and a Girl Guiding Leader for the Bilton Rainbows Unit. In her spare time, she is a keen stitcher and gardener, often found on a plane to a random part of the world with a good book or crochet needle in one hand and a glass of something fizzy in the other!
Treasurer
James Steele
James grew-up and was educated locally in Leicestershire [Lutterworth Grammar]. After graduating from University (Southampton) he lived and worked in London for over 20 years, in a variety of managerial roles in Banking, before moving to Dunchurch in 2021. James is currently splitting his time between family matters, working from home, and working in London for an international Investment Bank based in Canary Wharf.
He is happily married to Mary, celebrating his 10-year wedding anniversary this month, with their only son (Alex) at the school who is in the fourth year at Bilton Grange. With the current FAB team, he is looking forward to building upon the great work of the previous FAB committee, and help generate significant funds and goodwill in support of future school projects and local good causes.
Outside of work James is still a Leicester City supporter, and spends a lot of time gardening, as well as helping with a number of local Dunchurch community initiatives. Naturally, any FAB related issues, he’ll be very happy to hear from any parents.
