The Uncommon - rewriting the rules of English wine

The Uncommon was founded in 2017 by Henry Connell, to make the best possible English wine with the lowest possible impact. Rather than be bound by tradition, The Uncommon set out to break it for the better. That led them to become the first in the country to can wine.

Nine years on, they are the UK's first B Corp certified winemaker and the fifth largest English wine producer, regeneratively farming a south-facing chalk site on the North Kent Downs and running a second operation in New Zealand.

In 2026 they released bottles for the first time, for bars and restaurants, and produced the highest awarded English rosé at the Decanter Awards.

The wines are stocked in Fortnums, Waitrose, Tesco and Ocado, and poured at the likes of Wimbledon, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Edgbaston.

Henry will be joined by Phil Norman, Head of Production, and Calum Lennox, Head of Marketing.

This is the dawn of a new British industry, and it is already making some of the finest wine in the world. Where most English wine still follows rules derived from Champagne, come and taste from a winemaker that wants to redefine what wine can be for England.
