Bilton Grange Grounds Team Restores OB Pavilion Over the Summer

Since joining Bilton Grange from Rugby School last September, the grounds team has eagerly contributed to the upkeep and enhancement of the Bilton Grange site. This summer, as part of their ongoing efforts to improve the grounds, they took on the task of restoring the Old Boys pavilion, giving this historic building the care and attention it truly deserves.

Once a bustling hub of activity as a sports pavilion, the Old Boys pavilion had, in recent years, been repurposed as a storage space for athletics and rugby equipment. Though it had been renovated by a group of "OB's" some years ago, the passage of time had left its mark on the structure.

Dean Haydon, Grounds Leader, remarked: "As a grounds department, we strive to improve, not just maintain. This can be challenging at times, especially with just the three of us on the team, but we relish a challenge and thoroughly enjoyed this project. I’m fortunate to have a great team—proactive and positive."

The team—Dean, Ant, and Karl—set to work replacing the old, rotten framework with new, treated timber, carefully primed and glossed to withstand the elements, ensuring the pavilion will endure for many years to come. Ant took on the vital task of re-cementing the brickwork and reinforcing the structural framework, adding much-needed stability to the building. They also added a touch of pride and identity by frosting the windows with the Bilton Grange logo.

Through their hard work and dedication, the team has breathed new life into the Old Boys pavilion. A heartfelt thank you from all of us in the Rugbeian Community Team!
