ORRTC match v Holyport on Saturday 15 June
Result: OR win 2-1
Miranda Coyne (née Meades) (RB 02-07) and Oliver Buckley (W 67-71) had a nail-biting doubles match, won in the 3rd set at 5-5 in games and 40-40 sudden death in the last game. A rather tired-looking Oliver Buckley then lost his singles match in straight sets. The result of the third match was never in doubt as Miranda played a singles against Will Bromage (SH 80-85). FWIW Miranda won fairly comfortably. The second Doubles match saw Will teamed up with a newcomer to our squad – Rob Arthur (SH 13-18). This was won by the ORs fairly comfortably in straight sets. One of the Holyport players had complained about a knee problem, so the last match which was to have been Rob’s singles was played instead as a friendly Doubles with ORs and Holyport players on both sides. A selection of Thai curries was provided for lunch, allegedly cooked by match manager Oliver Buckley, with a rather boozy pudding.
Next match is at Cambridge on 29 September.
