The ORs visited the delightful Petworth House Tennis Club for a friendly match on 20 October
Result: ORs winning 3-1.
There was some hasty rejigging due to last minute PHTC player withdrawals and an odd number of ORs in the team. So Charlie Horrell was lent by Petworth to the ORs and James Medlow, the trainee pro, filled in for a PHTC member. James, who is a very promising - now singles figure handicap player, played sufficiently within himself along with the very experienced Julian Wilkinson to make for a very entertaining rubber that the ORs just lost having had set point at 5-4 in the second set. Unfortunately our host, Mark, wasn't well enough to play in the fourth rubber so we tucked in to a first class lunch kindly provided by Julia Stevenson.
Rob Arthur (SH 13-18) and Piers Vacher (St 81-86) closed out the match for the win.
Rob Arthur, a new player, his handicap coming down fast was a significant factor in the match.
Thanks to Fred Satow (C 70-75) and Will Bromage (SH 82-86) too.
