Michell alumnus Yifan Huang returns to the Chapel with his new wife

Returning to the school chapel after 17 years for a post-wedding thanksgiving service with my wife, I almost felt a lump in my throat as happy memories came back with a vengeance - the best years of youth, the fondest of memories, achievements, regrets, joys and sorrows. It was interesting how architecture could unfold into personal stories attached to the physical building, mine being only one of many. Standing in the grand chapel, the size of which could rival any cathedral, we felt something really special filling the space all around us. It took us some time to work out that it was love, as we marvelled at how brick and mortar could transcend behind the physical to the spiritual, from the love of God in his temple, to Dr. Arnold’s love of education behind his public schools reform, to shared moments with of our loved ones. It was a an honour and privilege to celebrate love and commitment in the school chapel - there is really no better place in the world.
