Rugbeian Mariella Satow (Tu 22) has been listed on the 2024 Forbe's 30 under 30 list for Social Impact, following the success of her company 'SignUp Captions.' 

Mariella's journey started when she decided to learn sign language whilst studying for her A-levels. She quickly realised that streaming content was inaccessible for many hearing-impaired children and for deaf adults who prefer sign language. Following this moment of realisation, Mariella created 'SignUp Captions', a free Chrome browser extension that overlays a pop-up window with a sign language interpreter for films and TV shows for Disney+ and Netflix. SignUp has has over 20,000 weekly active users and has provided interpretation for hundreds of hours of content. Mariella has revolutionised access to mainstream media for the Deaf community.

Mariella is the youngest person on the Forbes list at just 19 years of age. She is currently studying at Stanford University in California whilst continuing to develop her company. At her instigation, Rugby School now offers classes in British Sign Language as part of its co-curricular programme – 14 students have joined as well as 22 staff.
