Mariella Satow (Tu 17-22) has been selected for the prestigious Emergence Accelerator Program at Stanford University, an extraordinary accomplishment as the sole undergraduate among this year’s cohort. Hosted by the Stanford Prevention Research Center within the Department of Medicine, the highly competitive programme typically reserves its spots for master’s and PhD students, accepting only one undergraduate annually.
Emergence supports a small group of student entrepreneurs each year, providing workshops, mentorship from industry leaders, and networking opportunities to drive impactful ventures addressing global health challenges. Mariella’s inclusion offers an exceptional opportunity to scale her innovative startup, SignUp, with the guidance of an accomplished mentor.
SignUp is a groundbreaking media-accessibility tool developed in collaboration with the Deaf community to provide sign language interpretation on streaming and educational platforms. With over 432 million people worldwide identifying as Deaf or Hard of Hearing, the platform addresses an urgent need for inclusivity. Since its launch, SignUp has grown rapidly, attracting 20,000 website visitors in its initial phase and now serving 25,000 weekly active users across the US, UK, India, and Canada on platforms like Disney+ and Netflix.
Mariella’s acceptance into the Emergence Accelerator Program marks an exciting milestone in her journey to revolutionise media accessibility.
