Harriet Tuckett (St 04-06): Founder of an International Language School

After leaving Rugby, in 2006, Harriet read Spanish at university where she gained a BA Honours degree in 2010.

Having lived in Spain on the Costa Blanca from a young age, she became a keen linguist and decided to pursue a career in languages.

After graduating, she decided to set up her own language tuition business offering Spanish lessons primarily to children and adults of all ages in small groups and one-to-one.

School teaching never appealed as she wanted to follow the family tradition of running her own company privately. Her father, a fellow OR, worked as a Chartered Surveyor in Spain, specialising in valuations and surveys for UK courts. Harriet began by advertising locally in Norfolk, where the family had settled due to her father’s poor health.

Not knowing what to expect, she was overwhelmed with enquiries for adult and children’s classes and began teaching small groups in a converted outbuilding in the grounds of her house, which became her official classroom and office.

It was apparent that there was a great demand for this in the local area, so much so that after a couple of years she had to expand from offering classes at home to a more central location in the town centre. It was at this point that Harriet searched for larger premises at a business centre and this became her main office for the next decade.

In 2012, Harriet furthered her qualifications and became a Chartered Linguist and now specialises in GCSE and A Level tuition for all modern foreign languages, tutoring students from some of the UK’s top public schools.  Harriet has now expanded as an International Language School, employing a team of tutors to offer five languages from beginner to advanced level.

Covid in 2020 forced the entire business to an online platform, moving to Zoom calls for most classes.  This provided the opportunity to expand internationally and Harriet now teaches online all over the world, including China!  After Covid, she is now back to teaching in the classroom as well as online.

As a fourth generation Rugbeian, Harriet is proud to have followed in her father’s footsteps running her own company and looking forward to entering her 16th year of business in March 2026.
