I'm delighted to announce the publication of my book: A Complete Waste of Science: 10 Rigorous Investigations into Questions Nobody Asked

What happens when scientific rigour meets questions that absolutely nobody needed answering?

There are some questions mankind has wrestled with for centuries. How dead is a doornail? How much cellulose fibre can a woodchuck chuck? Exactly how many birds in a bush are required to equal one already in the hand? These questions have, for reasons that remain baffling, been largely ignored by the scientific establishment. This book seeks to correct that oversight. Across ten rigorously unnecessary investigations, we apply the full apparatus of modern scientific enquiry: measurement, statistical analysis, experimental controls, dubious formulae and an entirely unjustified number of decimal places, to sayings, proverbs and familiar phrases that were never intended to withstand such scrutiny. The results are occasionally informative, frequently inconclusive and almost entirely useless. They are, however, scientifically presented, which is very nearly the same thing as being true.

You get ten investigations into the wonderfully absurd, driven by curiosity, analytical thinking and a determination to take the ridiculous seriously.

It's science with a twist: a little unconventional, a little eccentric and, I hope, rather funny. It may not change the world, but it might make you look at it rather differently!

You can find the book on Amazon here:

A little mystery surrounds the author, John Nyete Parker. That's actually me, Peter John Karney. The name is an anagram of my own – I thought a pseudonym added just the right touch of scientific intrigue!

If the idea appeals, I'd love you to give the book a read. And if you enjoy it, an honest review on Amazon would be hugely appreciated. Reviews really do help independent authors get noticed.

Please feel free to share the book with anyone who enjoys science, intellectual curiosity, unconventional thinking or simply a good laugh. It might even make an unusual Christmas gift for the scientifically curious person who has everything.

Thanks everso if you take an interest, buy a copy, leave a review or helps spread the word. Your support means a great deal.

After all, some questions are worth answering. Others are worth investigating purely because they shouldn't be.
