Ash Wednesday and Lent

The Chaplain writes -

Today is Ash Wednesday, first day of the Christian season of Lent.  It’s a period of about six weeks during which we’re encouraged to focus with increased attention on the spiritual part of our lives.  Christians traditionally use this time to prepare for the Easter celebration of forgiveness and salvation, by remembering that we are sinners who need forgiveness; and mortals who need salvation.

Here’s a short passage from the Bible which contains a wonderful promise:

“I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.  You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Jeremiah 29:11-13
