New Strength and Conditioning Facility Transforms Training at Rugby School

The old shooting range at Rugby School has been transformed into a high-performance strength and conditioning facility that will support both independent training and squad sessions. Tailored to meet the diverse needs of students aged 13 to 18 —from beginners to elite competitors—this space provides a secure, efficient training environment that supports growth across various sports.

The gym has been outfitted with custom-branded Prestera Power Racks and Eleiko strength tools. The upgrade includes advanced lifting equipment, a dual pulley system, and safe facilities for Olympic weightlifting, tailored to the school’s unique athletic identity with branded racks, sport plates, and turf tracks.

Opened during the 200th anniversary of Rugby football, the gym emphasizes both functionality and school pride. It significantly broadens access to strength training, aligning with Rugby School’s renowned academic and co-curricular offerings, while fostering athletic development across all skill levels.

Lee Shepherd, Deputy Head (Co-Curricular) at Rugby School, commented:

'It was great to be able to bring this ‘place’ to fruition. A ‘space’ gains meaning because of what happens in it, and it becomes a ‘place’ when it is filled with people doing what they love doing and making those connections. The New Range Gym (NRG) is now a hive of activity on a daily basis. It really is a stimulating environment in which students are able to push themselves to reach the next level in their athletic development.'
