Rugby School Announces Launch of Sister School in central Lagos, Nigeria

Rugby School is delighted to announce the opening of its new state-of-the-art sister school, Rugby School Nigeria, in September 2025 on a purpose-built campus located in the vibrant, rapidly growing and well-connected Eko Atlantic City in the heart of Lagos, Nigeria.

Founded in 1567, Rugby is one of the world’s most famous schools, renowned for its tradition of academic excellence as well as for its holistic educational approach encapsulated by the motto “Whole Person Whole Point”.

Rugby School Nigeria will initially offer a Sixth Form programme for day students aged 16 and above, emphasizing academic excellence and a diverse range of extra-curricular activities, preparing students for entry to the world’s leading universities. From September 2026, the school will expand to include day and boarding students from age 11 to 18. The curriculum will mirror Rugby School’s renowned standards, initially offering a wide range of A-Level courses alongside outstanding programmes in sport, arts, leadership and enrichment. This holistic approach will not only foster academic success but also equip students for entry into higher education at the world’s top universities.

The opening of Rugby School Nigeria marks a significant milestone in Rugby School’s mission to expand further its educational philosophy and values on an international stage, having recently opened thriving and award-winning sister schools in Thailand in 2017 and Japan in 2023.

In anticipation of Rugby School Nigeria’s launch, Nick Bacon, Chairman of the Governing Body of Rugby School, said:

“We are thrilled to bring our educational expertise to Nigeria, a country rich in culture, talent and ambition where we have enjoyed strong ties for many decades. Rugby School Nigeria will embody the values, boarding ethos and standards that have defined Rugby School for centuries while embracing the opportunities of its dynamic location in Africa.”

Strategically adjacent to Victoria Island, Eko Atlantic City provides an ideal location for Rugby School Nigeria, with accessible transport, reliable utilities, enriching landscapes and ocean-side surroundings, creating a secure and modern urban space.

Rugby is grateful for the support of the Board of Eko Atlantic in bringing to life its third international sister school, solidifying our joint vision of the vibrant city of Lagos as a destination for transformative education. This collaboration is a significant step in nurturing future leaders, aligning with our commitment to creating global connections, and positioning Rugby School Nigeria in Eko Atlantic City at the forefront of educational excellence in West Africa.

Rugby School Nigeria aims to empower its students to achieve academic and personal excellence, cultivating the skills and mindset needed to thrive in an ever-changing global landscape.
