Fond memories of rackets at Rugby and the sterling efforts of Peter Gray and Ian Graham to make us all better players.Well done Charlie and hope the appeal is successful.

Thank you Charlie for leading this effort to restore rackets at Rugby. My play was mediocre at best, but I loved the game and it served me well for many other sports I have enjoyed in my life. I was always under the shadow of William Surtees (a World Champion), but I did manage to represent Cambridge in the Blues match. We lost, sadly. I will never forget Peter Gray, who i knew better than most masters!

My son has been introduced to Rackets at Rugby and loves the game. Good luck Rugby Rackets.

I spent hours and hours on the rackets courts at the school under the diligent training of Ian Graham and Peter Gray, I remember them as being some of my more enjoyable times at the school (as well as playing tennis in the summer term). Being able to hit a rackets ball, meant that you could hit just about any ball with a racket, this opened a number doors when I had left the school and continued to provide enjoyment for all of my life. The education provided by the school should go beyond academic grades. What has happened to rackets at the school is a crying shame, I do not believe for one moment that pupils are less able now than they were 40 years ago, they just need encouragement and good coaching (this can be done...).The school was also kind enough to give me a number of rackets each year (there were quite a few). This avoided a number of difficult conversations with my parents. Please spend our contributions wisely, so that pupils of the future can get the enjoyment and fulfilment that I was fortunate enough to have.

Good luck with the appeal. Many a happy memory playing rackets very badly indeed!

It would be great to hold an event after the refurbishment to celebrate the great Rugby School rackets contributors over the years - Montgomerie, Carter, Robards, Rosser etc. floreat Rugbeia!
