Bilton Grange School News |
It gives us great pleasure to announce that all of the 6th Form have successfully passed their exams and secured their senior school placement. Although travelling back from the Isle of Wight today, the Headmaster was able to share this wonderful news with them by video link and the usual roar of relief was a pleasure to hear.
We have managed to share their grade sheets with them and the results were particularly pleasing, emphasising the effort, hard work and overall improvement of all the pupils. In the Common Entrance examinations (English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics) 94% of grades were A*-C and 36% at A*-A.
This year group has been the first to complete the two year syllabus following our partial move away from Common Entrance (CE). The opportunity not to be tied to CE has provided many creative opportunities for learning and assessment across all subjects, allowing us also to recognise children's input as well as their output. We do believe that every subject matters and the grade sheets they have received included, in addition to CE, their grades for French, Spanish, Latin, History, Geography, TPR, Art, DT, PE, Drama, Computing and Music. Our approach in these subjects developed a number of skills alongside knowledge acquisition, and we are very proud of the individual and collaborative achievements of the pupils. For example, the 6th Form pupils prepared for and delivered a team debate and many pupils shone in this process. Being able to articulate oneself well verbally is such a vital skill, which is not always assessed through the traditional method of examinations. The pupils also completed an independent project in History which allowed them free rein to explore any aspect of history which interested them. This choice provided them with the forum for their passions and interests to be ignited further, and the skills of research, enquiry, and reflection, as well as the overall presentation, were very impressive to see. The breadth of projects and the quality was quite exceptional. We hope we can find a way to share some of these with you.
Today's pleasing results are combined with an excellent year of scholarship awards. A total of 29 scholarships have been awarded this year which is quite exceptional. At the end of the year, we are proud to know that all our 6th Form children are ready for their next step in their journey, and they are equipped with the knowledge and skills that will help them succeed, both in and out of the classroom. We wish them every success in this journey and say a very big WELL DONE to them all.
