OR Meteors |
On 25th August, the Meteors will take on the renowned wandering side, the Free Foresters, in a fixture steeped in history.
The connection between Rugby School and the Free Foresters dates back to 1856, when Rugby became the first school to play against the Free Foresters. The club has a storied past, with many famous cricketers among its ranks, including Old Rugbeian Pelham Warner (who has a stand named after him at Lord's).
This historic fixture against Rugby School ran for 150 years before being discontinued, but the Meteors have successfully revived it, much to the delight of the Free Foresters, who are eager to return to The Close.
This year's Meteors squad features a strong lineup, including recent leavers Joel Jacob and Oscar Briggs:
Stephen Richardson (C 94-99)
Saadi Choudhury (M 12-17)
Joe Bramley (T 21-23)
Pranav Sharma (C 93-98)
Joel Jacob (T 19-24)
Oscar Briggs (T 19-24)
Jack Paybody (T 18-23)
Max Taylor (M 16-21)
Philip Sharkey (M 15-20)
Ed Whitely (M 15-20)
Charlie Wedgwood (W 04-09)
Reserve: Harry Butler (T 19-21)
The timed fixture will begin at 11:30 AM. The Meteors will proudly don their iconic duck egg blue shirts as they take to the field for their final game of the season—a season that was unfortunately marred by bad weather early on.
In keeping with tradition, the club continues to cover the match fees for any Old Rugbeian making their debut for the team.
