Anthony Laurence Anderson (SF 46-51)

11 Jan 2023
Obituaries

Tony passed away on 11 January 2023 aged 90yrs after a short illness at Wexham Park Hospital.
He was the widower of Tessa and much loved father of James and Charlotte, grandpa to Tom and Phoebe, Ben, Sam and Katie.
He was born in Upton on the Wirral as the third son of Margaret and Laurence. His elder brothers John and Colin and the youngest David. He and Tessa enjoyed being part of this big family with many neices and nephews.

He attended Rugby school and Cambridge University and later worked as an accountant for Aspro Nicholas in Slough having moved to Touchen End near Holyport with wife Tessa in 1961. They set about renovating an old house and creating a beautiful garden.

Always an active community member, after retirement he became involved with the Windsor Bridge Club, Talking Books, Meals on Wheels, Touchen End Residents Association and HACAN clear skies campaigning to stop the Heathrow expansion. He was a great environmentalist organising tree planting in urban areas, and a passionate gardener taking part in the Holyport show with enthusiastic photographic and horticultural entries. He sat on several local committees including the Holyport War Memorial hall.

Tony loved singing and appreciated many different types of music, with jazz as his passion. He followed rugby and cricket closely never far from radio commentary on important matches.
He and Tessa enjoyed an active social life where Tony was often the life and soul of the party. They travelled widely all over the world but it was a terrible shock when Tessa died suddenly in 2001. He stayed in Touchen End before moving to Swift House in St Lukes Rd Maidenhead where he was very comfortable and made new friends.

His later years were spent quietly, enjoying his grandchildren, learning new things, stoically coping with lockdowns and watching policitics closely. He was a thoughtful, considerate man who will be greatly missed.
