During the Easter break, Rugby School was delighted to welcome back Jill Rogers (St, C 75–77) for her second visit since leaving in 1977. Jill was one of the first three girls to join Rugby School in 1975, marking the beginning of a new chapter as the School made its historic transition to co-education.
As one of the pioneering female students, Jill’s experience was not without its challenges, joining a school of 768 boys. These early girls were undeniably brave in the face of those challenges, and Jill’s visit offered an opportunity to reflect on those formative years - a pivotal moment in the School's history as it became one of the first institutions to embrace co-education.
To mark her return, Jill toured the School, revisiting key locations that held particular significance during her time here. She was also joined by Ian and Fiona Newton, the Housemaster and Housemistress of Crescent House from 1976 to 1992, where Jill spent her second year.
It was a truly memorable occasion for all involved, and we look forward to sharing more of her story, in her own words, this September as part of our year marking ‘50 Years of Girls at Rugby School.’
