Lt Col Robin Phayre will give an on line talk on the Battle of Agincourt (or Azincourt) on Tuesday 24th October 2023 at 7 pm with reference to some participants from Oxfordshire, including the Earl of Oxford, as well as Thomas Chaucer, the son of Geoffrey Chaucer.

He will describe the principal participants, King Henry V and Charles VI of France, the landing at Harfleur and the march north towards the small villages of Azincourt, Tramecourt and Maisoncelles and then go on to describe in some detail the battle itself, the mud, weapons, and armour. He will suggest that the archers' ability to move and deploy swiftly, to think for themselves or quickly react to orders, could be likened to light infantry.

Robin will describe the penetrating power of the arrows and illustrate his talk with many slides and aerial photos of the battlefield that he took with his drone in 2015, just before the 600th anniversary of the battle.

At the end, Robin will ask whether it was the English who won, or the French that lost the Battle.
