Rugby School Students Secure Prestigious Conservatoire Offers

Rugby School is celebrating the success of three of its current students, Johnnie, Nathan and Toby, who have all secured places at leading UK conservatoires.

Johnnie has been offered a place at the prestigious Royal Academy of Music, where he will study Jazz Piano,  Nathan, meanwhile, has been awarded a place at Trinity College of Music to study drums. Toby has also achieved outstanding success, securing a place at the internationally acclaimed Royal College of Music, further highlighting the breadth of musical talent at the School.

All three students have been active contributors to the School’s music programme, regularly performing and developing their craft through ensembles and individual study.

Johnnie first reflected on his experience of the conservatoire application process and the support he received:

“Whilst the application and auditioning process for conservatoires was extremely stressful and daunting, I had a lot of fun throughout the process. Rugby has helped me enormously through both the teaching and support I’ve been given over the years as a music scholar and as a student. The dream offers I have received over the past few months can largely be credited to Rugby School for giving me the tools I needed to get to where I am today and helping me present the best version of myself in my auditions.”

Nathan then described his offer as a significant personal milestone:

“Being awarded a place at Trinity is a huge milestone for me and feels like a real validation of the hours I’ve dedicated to practice.

Looking back, the School has played an instrumental role in helping me reach this point. When I joined, it was my first real opportunity to immerse myself in jazz, as I had limited experience beforehand. From providing excellent facilities for practice, to supporting audition recordings, to offering expert feedback that refined my performance skills, the environment here has been central to my development as a musician.

I am very much looking forward to starting at Trinity, and I will always value the foundation the School has given me.”

Finally, Toby commented:

“I am very excited to take up my place at RCM next year. I have been fortunate to have had so many opportunities to sing at Rugby School, including the Song Prize, recording Evensongs with Temple Consort and singing with the Rugby Choristers, as well as performing in the recent musical, Evita. The choir communities at the School have been supportive environments for me to develop, and I am grateful to all of the music staff for their help and encouragement over the years.”

Their success reflects not only their dedication and talent, but also the strength of Rugby School’s music programme, which continues to support and inspire students pursuing excellence in performance and further study.
