Simon was educated at Bramcote School, Scarborough prior to entering Cotton House in 1965. At Rugby he was active on the sports field, playing for the XV for 3 years, being appointed captain in his final year. He played for the Hockey XI and was captain of the XXII on the cricket field. Simon also captained the Yorkshire U19 county rugby team. He represented the School in the 100 yards in the athletics squad, as well as Warwickshire schools in the 4x100 yard U19 relay squad. In his final year Simon was Head of House under John Inglis and was awarded the Thomas Hughes prize. After a gap year spent in New Zealand Simon attended the College of Law, Guildford.
Following a spell as an articled clerk training to be a solicitor in Leeds, Simon abruptly decided on a change of career and joined Barclays International in London in 1974. Subsequently, he spent 26 years at Barclays before moving to work for KBC Bank as Head of European Debt Origination. For the past 10 years Simon has worked for Lloyds Banking Group where he is currently a Managing Director in Lloyds’ Loan Markets business.
Simon has had a long association with the Rugby Portobello Trust (formerly The Rugby Clubs), which is now part of the P3 group of charities and he is currently involved in a major fund raising campaign for the reconstruction of its camp site on the Kent coast.
Simon married Sian in 1979 and they have 2 daughters, Charlotte and Alexandra.
Simon is an ECB qualified cricket umpire and he enjoys umpiring regularly in the Surrey Cricket League. He is also an Honorary Steward at Twickenham, a member of the M.C.C. and President of a local cricket club.
