Greg Sammons (SF 04-06) reflects on his journey as one of the first Arnold Foundation students

As one of the first Arnold Foundation students, my journey at Rugby School was filled with challenges, triumphs, and invaluable support. I was scouted by Simon Brown while playing rugby in Solihull, and stepping into Rugby School for the first time, I wasn’t sure what to expect.

Any uncertainties were quickly dispelled by the warmth of the staff, especially mentors like the late Ed Beesley, Peter Davey, Simon Brown, and Guy Steele-Bodger. As a dyslexic student, I received tremendous academic support, which boosted my confidence and resilience.

My passion for rugby flourished, leading me to represent the school XV and, later, pursue a professional rugby career with Leicester Tigers and abroad in Italy and New Zealand, until an injury ended my career at 26.

Thanks to the foundation laid at Rugby, I transitioned into higher education, earning a sport science degree at Loughborough and eventually a Ph.D. in sport medicine from the University of Central Lancashire, focusing on concussion in elite sport. Today, I have the privilege of working alongside an incredible team as the Football Intelligence Platform Manager at the Premier League.

Beyond my career, I am blessed with a loving family—my wife and two daughters—who remind me of my journey and the values Rugby instilled in me. Looking back, I am immensely grateful for Rugby School’s transformative impact.

The Arnold Foundation: Legacy Gifts

Your legacy can change the lives of future generations.

In 1567 Lawrence Sheriff left a bequest in his Will to establish a school to educate the boys of Rugby and Brownsover. That is how Rugby School began, with a gift of £50 and an orchard in Bloomsbury.

Today, your legacy gift can have a lasting impact on future generations at Bilton Grange or Rugby School by helping to build a new endowment for the Arnold Foundation and the Earle Fund to provide bursaries for boarding students at Rugby School and Bilton Grange.

Find out more about leaving a gift in your will here.
