Rugby pairing Callum Grier (C 08-13) and Charles Whitworth (C 79-84) made it a hattrick of wins for Rugby in the annual public schools alumni real tennis tournament hosted by Middlesex University (April 10th-13th 2026), defeating Harrow 5-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the final and putting Rugby's name on the Cattermull Cup for the fourth time since 2009.
Playing the qualifying rounds on Friday evening, Callum and Charles recorded good wins over Eton and Haileybury, and despite a narrow loss to The Leys School, this was enough to secure them a semi-final place on Sunday morning against Sherborne. Making a quick start to the semi-final, they secured the first set 6-2 before making rather heavy weather of the second set, sneaking over the line 6-5.
Thanks are due to the T&RA for backing the event and to Paul Cattermull for so generously sponsoring and personally hosting the weekend, as well as the delightful pros at MURTC (Will Burns and assistant Jack Carter) for overseeing fair play and marking the matches.
